Some good news after a bad start

dskagen Jul 22, 2009 12:17 AM

This little guy started piping tonight, he should be out tomorrow.

It was the only good egg to come out of a disastrous clutch, i had the mom an anery in with a ultramel motley who i was trying to prove out, he turned out to be sterile, in an attempt to save the clutch i put her in in with my sunglow mot and only one egg got fertilized and barley at that.

her is a pic of the clutch

I had some what the same thing with my Stripe Silver Queen project, I only got 2 good eggs.

The good part is that they both hatched, and they both eat with no issues what so ever!!!!!!

Got very lucky, I am greatful that I have 2, to work with...They are both het's(didn't get a stipe) but sure beats the heck out of nothing!!!!!!!! They are still stunning!!!!!

i know what you mean this little guy is triple het for snow motley which will be a nice addition to my colony.
that one egg going full term makes it my current favorite, i was floored when i saw the bad clutch to have that unlikely little egg go all the way makes it worth it to try.

Sorry to hear that... Looks as if you've had the same luck I have had with my golden corns (weak males)(read my post above)....I hope my three out of 24 will make it - and maybe just ONE will be a golden (I have learned long ago to NEVER ask too much out of life)

your golden project is incredible i hope the few eggs you have pan out for you, id love to see those available in the near future i know id at least pick up a few hets. as for my issue i just didnt get lucky on my old male having anything left in him after the issues a last year, he got an infection in his vent after breeding that left alot of scaring and i figured he might be sterile but i gave him a try this year just to make sure.

Thank you. Too bad your male didn't recover from his infection. And I'm glad that one (egg) made it all the way. You have a very nice pair in that pic. The red one's posterior pattern reminds me of a zonata, very nice. Post a pic of your lone survivor when you get a chance!

i just got home from work today to check out my new little girl from the looks of it, and i was pleased to see she is doing well and moving around. this might sound weird but she is the first "normal" i have hatched out, she is triple het for snow motley, but she shows alot more red on the sides than i expected.

the red one in the photo is the male ultramell that didn't work out with the mom from the above baby.

That's a good lookin' corn! Looks quite healthy to me. I have to admit that your ultramel is quite the smoker. Too bad about his infertility (infection) problem. Hopefully your new little one will eat like a pig and grow good! Thanks for the pics.

Im prity excited about my new addition, im a little bummed about ultramel being sterile but these things happen. i have a friend that picked up a ultramel stripe last year and it looks like it should be up to breeding size by next year so ive already worked out a trade for some Abbot Okeetees, and im trying to pick up a snake from another friend that he caught that looks like it might be a new line of Carmel. so i should have several new projects cumming up in the near future.

That's the woderful thing about having frieds that also breed snakes, there is allways the barder system......Inevidably you are going to have something that they want or vise - vera.....I also have a few buddys that we use each others males in breeding projects, works out quite nicely....By doing so we have found out that our males are het. 4 alot more than we originally thought....I wish it was like it was in the "old" days when we all would get together and swap snakes,no money involved, just good old fashion bardering, those days were some of the best times I had, I allways went home with a sore stomach from laughing so hard.....

Thats actually how i have come up with alot of my snakes, i got my first snake when i was 11 from a teacher who needed help taking care of his collection, i was given the choice between a 5 ft male corn or a hatchling western hog, my mom mad the decision by saying she wouldent let a 5 ft snake in the house, it was probibly my favorite snake ive ever had sadly i lost her about 2 years ago.
but ive been breeding them and collecting them since them.

hers the one pic i have so far when she shows up at my house il post more pics and some comparisons.

i thought anery at one point but to much yellow and caramel is the only other thing that i think is close id relay like it to be none of the above but as long as its genetic i don't care it will be my own line of whatever it is.
