Monitor Shedding Question

Ppk Sep 15, 2003 02:32 PM

I would just like to know what the average Savannah Monitor Shedding rate is when the monitor is about a year old. My Sav, Jango, has been shedding almost non-stop since June. I started feeding him mice regularly and I started feeding him daily in June and since then he has been shedding about 2 times a month. He grew about 8 inches within about a 3 month period. I would just like to know since I read an article at kindplanet.com and it says that the average lizard will every 4-6 weeks, mine has been doing it pretty much every 2-3 weeks. I also read there that if a lizard is not properly fed (as mine sort of was, I was feeding him only insects for the first 10 months 3 times a week as opposed to giving him meat every day) and the lizard suddenly begins to be properly fed, it will grow at an immense and rapid rate. Is this true? This is pretty much the case with my monitor, he has been growing really fast since June! It is a good thing, yes but I am just curious. He is currently 20 inches long and he is about 13-14 months old.

I don't think there IS such thing as an average lizard. So any info about an average lizard is pretty much useless. I wouldn't sweat over it too much, at any rate. I've NEVER seen my monitor shed, but then again I only get a good look at him every few weeks... (and he's an adult)
