heres another pict...enlarged...sorry. I like the snake, i think it looks a little like the pastel superstripe but i think as it ages the fire influence should take it in different directions...probably gonna wash it out. and maybe the Pastel fire superstripe will be even cooler.

Cool Clint, I am a little shocked that fire didn't do more than that actually. Maybe like your saying with some size on them they will change and get even more washed out in the sides and lighter overall with the Fire gene in there. Cool looking snakes for sure either way Clint! Nice work man! Do you think you can still hit a Pastel Fire Super Stripe this year ?

Pic taken in March, she's a regular female Super Stripe from 07 from my line .

I really like the look . . . can't wait to see it after several months.

$64 question, will a superstripe bred to a normal reproduce itself? Thanks Terry

kinderman Jul 22, 2009 09:29 PM

...and may not even after this season.

SuperStripe will not reproduce itself when bred to a normal

I was not sure if enough breedings had taken place to know for SURE. I trust your word/info -- thanks!!!

so they are a recessive mutation?

anthony james mc Jul 23, 2009 08:09 AM

No, not recessive. So far it appears that these 2 codom genes involved (Yb and Whirlwind/Specter) are Alleles of each other. Basically the same thing as why a Lesser/ Mojave Blue Eyed Leucy can't just make more Leucy's when bred to a normal, you either make more Mojaves or more Lessers BUT no Normals. The Super Stripe (unless somebody has recently proved me wrong) seems to act the same when bred to normal, you make Yb's and Whirlwind/Specters but no normals either. The bonus of having a "Super" involving 2 different genes on the same Allele is that it can't make a normal, BUT the downfall to that is that it is NOT able to reproduce itself as the designer morph , it can only produce it's 2 ingredient genes without any Normal siblings when bred to a normal.

I think its good that they can't reproduce themselves when bred to a normal....The harder they are to produce the longer the prices will remain and not come crashing down.

YBs are everywere will not be long befor the spector are readly available and every one will be makeing super stripes from ivory/YBs just like all codoms they will be a dime a dozen same with the phantom once they get around a little the prices will crash wasn't long ago pins, bees ect. were $20000 now its hard to give them away. its just the way it goes.

Not sure most would agree with that thinking. A Killer Bee for example still isn't a "dime a dozen " snake and those have been around for the consumer ALOT longer than Super Stripes or Phantoms. Afterall to make a Killer Bee all you need is a male Bumble Bee and a bunch of female Pastels/Super Pastels , no shortage of either of those morphs for some time now and people still aren't giving the Killers away several years into that project. Odds are a bit harder to hit a Killer (1 in 8 odds- bee x Pastel) but still think of the number of Killers that could be made compared to the number of Super Stripes or Purple snakes, isn't even a close race, and even if Killers were all the sudden readily available they still wouldn't be a "dime a dozen". So I highly doubt we are giving Super Stripes , purple snakes or anything in between away cheap anytime soon, just not happening.
