What type of snakes

baconbits Sep 15, 2003 02:55 PM

I'd like to start breeding snakes, Ive kept a couple diffrent types before. What I am asking for is advise as to a good place to start. What type would you suggest I begin with....
I'd like something that will atleast cover some of their expense in the long run. So just let me know what you think.
Thanks in advance
Aaron

If you plan to breed for the first time I suggest getting a breeding pair that is already proven and healthy. You then must hibernate (brumate) them correctly.
A pair of california kings or a pair of cornsnakes would be the best to start with. I have been keeping snakes for 15 years and breeding for the last 4 and I still appreciate all snakes no matter what the value is. These are very reasonable and there is a market for them if you plan to sell offspring.
After breeding these confidently then you can start with some more of higher value. IMHO.

Good Luck,
