Bronze & Butter

monklet Jul 23, 2009 10:21 AM

Amazing coindcidence...was in the front yard (coastal SoCal) on the phone with a well known breeder ordering a new snake (P. ruthveni) when I notice this king crawling down the bank in corner. Turned out to be a very richly colored king. I've been wanting one like this for a while.

The hard sun really brings out some deep bronze that isn't obvious here in this crummy image. The bands are especially yellow. It was kind of thin, probably due to the drought conditions here, but a very nice animal that has already taken two meals in 5 days! Will make a nice date for my WC Eastern Kern County female.

'X' marks the spot.

Handsome animal. I remember my days in Napa County and seeing those banded beauties when I was a kid (that was a long time ago, lol). Always got excited when I found one close to the house! The ones in Napa were usually brown and with thin white bands, with some nice wider banded individuals found around Calistoga.

Did a google search and found a Barrett lake in Place County...much closer to you Shannon isn't it? So I was thinking, "wow NoCal striper!"...thanks for the clarification.

Good point Shannon. I generally prefer pure localities...don't know what I was thinking, just seemed like a good idea at the time. I probably won't breed them.

That little aberrant striper is pretty cool...looks fat with yoke eh?

shannon brown Jul 26, 2009 02:15 AM

Yep, plum full of yolk. All of them are super fat.
Thanks

Wow! Brad, that is a beautiful King, accompanied by a great story. I know CB is better, but the stories that go w/ WC animals are priceless. I like the look of the Kings in your area. Ours here in Chatsworth are black & pale yellow.

I tried to send you an email about the "Lyre Project", but wasn't able to. So far helleri, a tarantula and a toad. Herp on!

Thanks Darren for the compliment and the impressive "Lyre Snake Project" update It'll be even sweeter when you get one.

Cheers,
Brad
