Cataracts ?

leyla Jul 23, 2009 07:19 PM

hi , any one else have a elderly hog with these ? i have a 15 year old girl with Cataracts, she feeds fine and my vet is happy with her, i bumped into another hoggie keeper in my local pet store today and got chating, it turns out he has a 10 yr old with the same problem.
In 30 years of keeping lampropeltis i never had a single case, is this only a old hog thing ? comments welcome

One of our old hognoses at the museum has had cloudy eyes off and on for the last few years. She was wild collected as an adult in 1994. She too feeds well but the cloudy eyes (cataracts) come and go. Another friend has a hog female that is 22 years old(cbb) that has no eye problems, so maybe an individual hognose disorder.

Hope this helps

Interesting...

My Eastern just passed and one thing I noticed is that her eyes were getting cloudy. I had her for about four years and knew nothing about her history. I'm quite certain she was WC. I wondered if snakes could get cataracts as well.
