unopened eye

sutors Jul 25, 2009 08:37 AM

Hello All,
I have recently noticed my leopard gecko has been keeping it's right eye shut nearly all the time recently. She has also been licking the eye frequently. The eye isn't depressed and I don't see any discharge or really anything at all other than the fact that it is closed. She has had no previous health problems and is nearly 21 years of age. Anyone got any idea?

It may have something to do with husbandry. Give us a run-down of your set-up. Temps, humidity, substrate, moist hides? And anything else of importance.

Sorry for the late response. I keep the gecko in a type of gravel (not small enough to be eaten) and have two hides for her. One is dry synthetic rock and right on the substrate, the other has vermiculite under it so that it may keep moist. For some reason, when I mist the cage she opens the eye very slowly. I think I am going to change the substrate to newspaper until I solve the problem.
