Problem with Boa constrictor need advice

benny333 Jul 27, 2009 04:42 AM

Hi Everyone
I just got a baby Boa constrictor couple weeks ago, first everything seems well, it fed and shed. But now the rear half of it's belly is popped up, can also feel a few small chunks of hard mass at the place around 3/4 it's body lenth, and the rest feels like it's filled with fluid. I'm quite worried. Any idea what is wrong or advice what I should do?
Greatly appreciated for any input

Thanks

Benny

It sounds like a possible constipation. How long since he last ate/defecated?

Nothing you describe is outside of normal. I wouldn't start to worry yet. A little soak in barely lukewarm water that is about 1/4" deep will often illicit a little poop. Sounds like it may be full of poop but all Boas are full of poop before they take a dump.

Have fun.

Soak in 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of lukewarm water as suggested already. All it takes is about 5 minutes. Boas need hydration, and a soak like that is a great way for the little snake to absorb water.

For many of us, we don't have decent humidity much of the year, so captive boas sometimes need a humidity boost, and soaking is an easy, quick way to provide that.
