When should we know how effective the calls we make today will be.

...lets hope they listen! Big Red under the macro lens...now only if we had a "macro" eye view of everything these politicians are doing...maybe we could introduce legislation to "ban" some of them...?

Just spoke with several offices. I was told the bill was being ammended to drop all species of pythons except for burmese pythons. Thats all that I know.

Joel_Thomas Jul 27, 2009 02:05 PM

in my mouth...we need to be very aware of future bills now

I appreciate all that USARK has done to bring information to us.

I had several that were nice about it (Tom Rooneys Washington Office especially) while others were completely pissed I dared to bother them.(Kendrick Meeks Washington office was by far the rudest, maybe my hick accent irritated their sophisticated ears.) Hopefully it pans out like it sounds and they will actually amend this to only include Burmese Pythons and leave it at that.(mixed feelings, as I kept Burmese for many many years).

For the most part all of the offices I called would rather not be bothered....HOWEVER, I was just informaed that Congressman Rooney is looking to amend this bill tomorrow to specifically call out Burmese Pythons.

Also, the best person I reached was at Congressman Nadler's, gentleman was professional and courteous!

THEY CAN HEAR OUR COLLECTIVE VOICES!

So its seems like the lowdown on this is to make Burmese pythons illegal to own in the USA? Whats a heavey hit as next to ball pythons, burmese are the most popular in the country.

Jonathan_Brady Jul 27, 2009 04:15 PM

EVERY office I've called has said that they are looking to amend the bill as currently written to ban the import, sale, and interstate transport of the burmese python. Whether that happens or not, who knows.

I have received proactive comments from the staff of the congressmen and women that this is their intention. If I didn't receive that comment proactively, I asked if the bill was possibly going to be altered in any way and I received that information.

I suppose this wouldn't make them illegal to "give away" as long as it's within your state.

If those three provisions are passed, the burmese python in captivity will no longer exist in 30 years, or exist in VERY limited numbers.

This is going to be ugly...
