Not Enough Calls- Keep Calling Tomorrow!

USARK Jul 27, 2009 10:58 PM

We need many more calls for the CALL CAMPAIGN OPPOSING HR2811 organized by USARK. We saw many email lists forwarding our phone and fax campaign all around the Reptile Nation. Kingsnake.com, ReptileRadio and many others helped spread the word, but today's turn out was less than stellar. Our work is not done. Please continue to call all day tomorrow. A link to the remainder of the list of House Judiciary Committee Members is below. Call everyone. If you have not contacted the key members indicated by USARK please do that first. Most members are not very aware of HR2811.

We have been in communication with the offices of Congressman Kendrick Meek and Congressman Tom Rooney since early this morning. They want to amend HR2811. Originally they agreed to the USARK proposal on an amendment. It has since become unclear the direction this proposed amendment might take. Tomorrow there will be a subcommittee mark up. There will be no amendment allowed tomorrow, but we will find out what the proposal for amendment will be. If it is out of line with what we have proposed we will fight it. It is possible that an amendment will be introduced on Wednesday during the full House Judiciary Committee mark up.

Make your phone calls... send your faxes. If you want to be successful we will have to do much better than today. We are potentially facing the end of the python trade. What are you personally prepared to do to stop that from happening? The people that do nothing will have themselves to blame if this bill goes south. Don't sit around and procrastinate and later wish you had done your part. Tomorrow is your last chance to have an impact on an amendment. Make your phone calls... send your faxes!!!

BEWARE OF RUMORS... do not contribute to the rumor mill. USARK will make a statement tomorrow updating the situation!

As of this morning, I was told by Meek's office that the resolution was being modified to ban only Burms, Retics, and Rocks. Rooney's office told me it was being modified to include only Burms. So, who really knows what they are planning. I opposed the legislation in any form, as I honestly believe it is a local issue, not a national problem.

I was encouraged when I called my Rep. (Ohio). He hasn't voiced a position yet, I don't think he knows much about it, but they had tons of questions about why I felt the way I did about it. They even took my name, phone and address and said they may want to contact me later. (Or, they were just putting me in a database that I'll regret later..) lol

Everyone call! I don't even own pythons, but I recognize this is a herp industry issue, not a python issue!!

I work with retics and balls, and I'm livid. I called my guy yesterday...crossing my fingers now. I got a pretty disinterested aide. *sigh* I want my babies to stay legal.

Did you only call "one guy"????? I mean I really appreciate that you called. We need as many people as possible calling and sending their FAX.

But.......

I was under the impression we were suppose to call "everyone on that list".

I was also under the impression that sending a fax to each of them as well was a good idea.

Anyway, I called "ALL" of them yesterday and sent a FAX to each of them..

I got a "few" that were quite polite.

I got "some" that were.... "angry/irritated/would rather I didn't call" sort of attitude.

I had 2 that I kept getting disconnected from. I had to call them back 5 or 6 times, just to get my NO vote in there.

The rest just didn't seem to care.

I've also gotten friends and family members to participate.

It's not about people that own and keep snakes calling in. It's about getting as many people as possible to call and/or FAX.

Today, they're trying to ban Pythons..... If they succeed...... What will they try to "BAN" next.

There's strength in numbers.

I figured I'd call the one I could threaten to not vote for since that's what gets thier attention.

Has anyone else tried calling and the phone ran for 4 minutes straight with no answer then a busy signal where it cuts off? I've tried calling all the washington DC numbers and this happened and I got an answer on the other number but the person on the line said it was a private number and didn't know what I was talking about. This is really frustrating.

Wirlwindboaz Jul 28, 2009 03:48 PM

There were 2 numbers that were doing that yesterday. I kept getting disconnected. I had to try 5 or 6 times just to get through.

RainbowBright Jul 28, 2009 05:02 PM

Okay, I'll just keep calling then. Thank you.
