ANOTHER RARE BOA BREEDING...OT

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Jul 28, 2009 08:50 AM

Here's a couple of pics of mother and baby Ford's Boas [Epicrates fordi]. This stocky diminuative Boa is endemic to Hispanola abd reaches only about 3' in length. My first of 3 gravid females gave birth this morning to 4 babies and 2 slugs. Babies are large and an average clutch is 3-5 only. Ford's Boas have a remarkable iridescence to them similar to a BRB. Thanks for looking...

Really neat, Tom. It is this type of project that re-excites me. I would really like to see the reptile industry take a couple of steps back in time to the hardcore hobby ... less hype and more knowledge. It can be done by cherry-picking your projects and networking with some of the old-timers. This is why I a slowly transitioning into some lizard projects ... a whole different mindset (more like the old days).

Till Next Time ... Bill

As far as I am concerned, Bill just said it all. Pure lines of boas have gone to the fringe and it will take some serious work to bring them back center mass.
Tom, as always, a very nice achievement. My Fordii should be here tomorrow (I lost track of the day) and will post a photo soon after.
Warren, the Trinidad should do something here in the next 6-10 days......

Best regards,
Jeff

I think the various regulations aimed at protecting species has been a primary driver of the "Morph" business.
Beautiful Boas, Tom.
