We own quite a few pastels and we love em. I personally think pastels are awesome and a good investment to start off with. Granted, breeding pastels isn't going to let you retire from your everyday job, but it will act as a little supplemental income. We bought our pastels because we loved the way they looked. If you want to get into something, choose a mutation that YOU like. long story short...pastels are great!

Here is my Graziani pastel. I bought him from Steve at Santa Cruz Reptiles. He is an eating machine and hopefully will breed many females this year.

Pastels are by far one of my favorites. I wouldn't worry too much about the market for pastels. Plus you should only buy what YOU like and are interested in and not what demands the market will play. All ball pythons are worth the time and investment in my opinion.

Even with prices falling on pastels you have to remember that there is a whole market still untapped in the pet trade. Your common ball python pet owner will not spend the thousands of dollars for morphs just to have as a pet. Now that the prices of pastels are reaching a more "pet owner friendly" price there will be no breeder that can single handedly keep up with the demand. Many people forget about the pet trade as opposed to the breeders who are looking to make the next designer morph or prove out a new line. Just think about how many people love normals as pets, now think how many people would spend a few extra bucks to get a pastel as a pet.. Viola, you have a whole new market for pastels! Any morph is a good investment when it comes down to it, but you really should buy what makes you happy. Just my $.02

i do love the pastels but i like many other species and have a little to spend and i want to get the most bang for my buck...

I dont feel that the market could drop enough in the next couple years to cause any Pastel breeders to lose much if any.

probably so much that pastels could become "normals"...
But do you buy an animal because you love his color and pattern or do you consider he's a merchandise (it would be a pitty)?

I just recently bought this 966 gram male pastel jungle and am looking forward to breeding him this comming year with several females that are all 5lbs +

Personally I think they are and will continue to be a good investment.
