JSKAHN Jul 29, 2009 02:41 PM

I just got 5 red ackie hatchlings, I was curious, how often should they be soaked?

I'm going to go with never. Keep the cage properly and you shouldn't have to soak them.

Thanks,They just seemed to really fill out after being soaked.Yes they are being kept right, but I didn't want to take chances.

Actually Ackies should be soaked once a week they have issuses now and then with " Stuck Sheds" around there toes and soaking helps pervent cercilation being cut off and the possabilties of lost toes.

Soaking should (( for juvies and adults)) the water that is should only comeing up to about the shoulder so that they can lay in the water with out geting tired or drowning. water should be at room temp.

babies get tired really quick so to pervent drowning and stress just place them inside a soak tank or aquarium that has no water in it but has ALOT of paper towls that are soaking wet.. this alows them to soak up the water they need without " floating" on top of the water or possibly drowning.

Pro Exotics talks about this is great detail and there advice has never let me down.

It is very important to watch for stuck sheds on tails and toes, that is true, it can cause problems quick.

But it is a bit dated husbandry, to soak : )

If set up properly, most importantly with access to a good soil, it is not necessary.

In a lesser setup, or for those with less experience, soaking can help overcome limitations. But Ackies like it less than other monitors : )

"Ackies like it less than other monitors"

Hahahahaha...I like that statement...or understatement LOL.

I never tried to soak mine, but boy if I did I wouldn't get any for months.....so to speak hahaha.

Cheers,
Mike.

Im starting to beleive you on that note of there hateing water...

Day 2 for me here with my litlle yellow and ive just fixed my venting/humidity problem i was haveing.. but i wanted to add some moisture to the substrate which is now holding where id like it.. maybe alittle too wet but i live in reno if theres water here its not here for long the air is Ubber dry its a dessert what do you exspct.

I had to soak him this morning he looked at me I swear with eyes that could burn holes threw you but he drank.. in his tank he avoids the water dish i have in there with a vengence which scares me abit as i worry aout dehydration otherwise hes doing great so far.
