Maternal Incubation question

msalem Jul 30, 2009 09:29 AM

So I was about to sell my last 2 snakes (I already rehomed 40 snakes, sold my incubator and 3 racks) when all of a sudden the female laid 8 eggs on Saturday. She is a proved 100% het pied and I have hatched out pieds from her twice before but I was totally not expecting this clutch so I decided to let her maternally incubate the clutch. The problem is that because I was not prepared for this clutch she had laid them on the newspaper in her tank and I'm not sure if she was unable to move the eggs or not but she was not coiled around 4 of the 8 eggs. I left her alone thinking she would eventually find a way to coil around them but last night I finally decided to take the 4 eggs out and use an old hovabator to try to save these 4 eggs. Is there a chance these eggs can still be saved? Was I too late?

Thanks in advance,
Mohamed

Have you tried candling those four remaining eggs to see if they were any good or not? It usually seems like roll outs are no good.

All you can do is try. I've had females discard eggs that hatched just fine. I'm not sure why they do it. I mean I've seen females defend and try to brood slugs.

Thanks to both of your replies. I am still incubating them and will just hope for the best because I haven't candled any of the eggs yet.
