Opinions on largest/best looking redtail

eschmit04 Jul 30, 2009 04:26 PM

Hi all, I am looking for peoples opinions for a LARGE BEAUTIFUL Adult female red tail. I have kept many Peruvians, Guyanas, Brazilian etc. It is always my experience that these snakes loose their color, or get extremely dark in color. I am hoping to raise a Giant beauty! LOL. Any recommendations?

Thanks All!

There are many lines of Peruvian boas that get big and stay light and very golden.

Is it size you are looking for over any other attributes?

I would consider over 10 feet large for boas. I am very fond of the Peruvians, I just wasn't sure if they were the largest. I am looking for Boa I can add to my collection that will stay beautiful and get as big as possible without losing to much of it color and pattern. Which Peruvians do you recommend? I am very fond of the Pucallpa's but don't believe they get that large.

thanks for your input!

I am a big BCC fan as well.

There are several "lines" of Pucallpa Peruvians, and several "lines" of Iquitos...they are both the same snake just from different areas of Peru.

I know of one breeder who has large animals from both examples and to boot he produces some of the prettiest availiable.

The BCC from Peru are known to get pretty large by boa standards and you really have to ask yourself if you have the proper requirements for such a large constrictor

Send me a private message and I will show you some links to check out which may help you determine what is right for you but more importantly what will be right for the boa.

Take care.

Hey Joel, Thanks for the info. I am REALLY a big fan of the pucallpa Peruvians. Who do you know that breeds them? I only know of a few breeders that produce pure pucallpa's. I have had quite a few boas in the past but they almost always level out at about 7 feet, I'm just looking for my BIG trophy girl! I am pretty comfortable with the big constrictors and actually own a retic (FYI sweetest snake in the world!)

I would love to get in touch with a few Pucallpa breeders to get in line for top litter pics now.

How large do they get in captivity? I read a few care sheets saying 10 feet but I have also seen care sheets for red tails state 14'... haven't seen that yet.

I am more after the BCC red tails but the argentine is a beautiful specimen!

Thanks!

Yeah but if he thinks a BCC is dark...wait till the adult coloration kicks in on a BCO!
FWIW, size wise my male BCO is 7-7.5' in length. Not sure how that stacks up to BCC.

Thats is why I thought JB was being funny...the dark almost black color of big adults....BCO are beautiful boas. I wish I had more time and money for more boas - lol.

They all don't turn a dark black and they even have red tails. My adults are more the size of Columbians ... I think it takes years for both Columbians and Argentines hit 9' and longer.
