Pastel defined (please forgive)

wizbang Jul 30, 2009 07:52 PM

Am interested in getting a ball python sometime in the future.

In the limited research I've done so far, it would seem that the pastel morph is very attractive yet very affordable.

I was curious as to what defines a 'pastel' ball python. I can tell they look sharper but what is the definition or tell tale signs of a pastel?

I did use the search function and typed in "pastel defined" and didn't really find what I was looking for.

Pastels are a bright yellow coloration with a plain white belly and greenish eyes. They also will have a faded look to the dark spots on their backs and their head. When viewed side by side I doubt you'd be able to mistake a pastel for a normal (if you can't then it's either a really poor pastel or a really nice normal). Just check out any of the big breeder's websites or troll the forums/classifieds here and you will find an abundant supply of pics to see what I mean.

Hope it helps,
Dan

Ya, Even my really nice normals don't really even compare to my male adult pastel, and he isn't even probably the greatest of examples.... Or maybe that just a sign I spend too much time looking at ball pythons. :D lol. Unless it is a very poor looking pastel they are pretty easy to tell apart... and even then it still isn't super hard to see. The eyes are alwasy the ticket to look for if you have a question on if it is a pastel or not.
