Gapeing?

Ive heard this term used a few times and tryed looking up threw search engines... Bbbbaaaaadddd idea good grief.. so im going ask here , what is gapeing in refired to reptiles,, what causes it and how can it be repidied?

When the reptile has its mouth wide open.

It is a typical threat/fear reaction - the reptile will turn towards its antagonist or rival with its mouth open. It will often be accompanied by other threat display reactions - hissing, lashing tail, distended gular pouch, and arched neck in the case of monitors. It may also be accompanied by lunging and snapping, and not infrequently the presence of blood in the mouth (your blood).

Overheated reptiles may also gape. This lets them cool off by evaporating the moisture in their mouths.
