Advice.. ornate

tps22 Sep 15, 2003 07:00 PM

I am currently looking to purchase a ornate uromastyx and I am interested in any advice anyone may have. i.e. the benefits of going with a ornate vs. many of the others. Two of the reasons I have narrowed it down to the ornate's are there beautiful colors and temperment.

Thank you for your time and help,

Tom

whatever you do, i'd recommend getting them from lindsay pike. i mean, just look at his breeding stock right on the front page... www.urotopia.com

i've seen that beast, "the hulk" in person and that is not a camera trick, he really is that amazingly beautiful.

I keep mali's, saharans and ornates. Ornates are definitely the most friendly of the three in my opinion followed by the saharans then the mali's. There is a reason why the ornates are usually more expensive than most uro's - beautiful colors and generally fantastic dispositions.

Another excellent source for getting an Ornate is Doug Dix at www.deerfernfarms.com. The website also has excellent information about Uros in general, as well as individual species.

Good luck! Hope you get a great one!

well the best place to go would be with lindsey pike from urotopia.com he has the best uros in my opinion and alot of new hatchlings, i bought a egyptian occelated uromastyx from him a week ago doing perfect, the same day i brought him and put him in the tank he basked heated up and ate, he is real tame is not shy of anyone , he could care less, in fact the same day i got him i was fixing something in his cage and he was eatling like if there was no one there, and since most of everything he has is captive bred i would go with him , plus prices are good, best bet would be to get it from him check his website out

Hi...
I have a mali, a two saharans, three rainbow bentis, two sudanese occellated and three ornates. The ornates are the friendliest and most easy going. They never even move when you go in the cages, you can just reach in and pat them like they were dogs. I love all of mine, but I agree that the personality plus those gorgeous colors make the ornates a wonderful choice. Both Lindsay Pike and Doug Dix would be my first choice if you want some healthy animals. Good luck with whatever you choose.
