I am rather new to mexicanas. What would you consider to be the minimum safe breeding weight for a female thayeri?

Greg,
I used to go by a rule of 30 inches and 300 grams for females, but I didn't always follow my rule...I have had smaller females breed successfully...It is not always easy to get a female to 30" by the second year, but by the third they should exceed 30".

You also need to make sure the female is fed more heavily out of brumation....Caloric intake produces healthy follicles and eggs....

It all has to do with your husbandry....If all the necessary options are in place they will breed successfully...

For males....I had a 25" male (2yr old) breed to a female that was much larger...But keep a good eye on this as the female may have him for a meal or just kill him....(had it happen once)...
