Consistancy of rhino eggs

JSKAHN Aug 04, 2009 07:10 PM

A question for those of you who had rhino eggs. When layed, are they kind of mushy or solid?

GOOD Rhino eggs should be firm and NOT mushy or sunk in looking when first laid. Not long before hatching they will shrink in a bit....thanks

I dug up her eggs as soon as she filled in the hole and they felt like they were mushy. A couple of hours later they filled out, I am treating them as good, and will see what happens. Thanks Tom, Joe Kahn

Actually as their laid they are rather soft but quickly firm up within a short time so yours are likely good....

Thanks Tom, That is what I am hopeing. Ihave had my male about 14 years, this is the first time he has been with an adult female. She is about 12 years old.supposedly, she layed 2 years ago.Hopefully, the adults are not too old.

Your Iguanas are definetely not too old...but in their prime. The fact that the eggs filled out is a good sign. Females that do not lay eggs every year tend to have a low percentage of eggs that make it to full term. Good luck

Thanks for your reply. It is encouraging that they are in their prime. She layed 18 eggs last weekend, and is still covering and protecting the mound.
Thanks, Joe
