Cool New Snake!

lpd209 Aug 04, 2009 08:32 PM

Maybe not new, but cool. This came from a Black Pastel to a norm. What do you think?

After it's out of the shell, I'll post more pics. Thanks for looking

What does the female look like, the adult?

I really like the look!

That's a hot looking snake.

The more I see these things the more I think that they really are chimeras. It will be interesting to see genetically what it is.

Congratulations!!!

Awesome! It reminds me of the paradox ivory except black. Hopefully whatever it is reproducible.

Are you sure the mother is a normal?

Good work,
Tom

Zefdin Aug 04, 2009 09:04 PM

Thats wat I was thinking. Maybe a paradox for super Black Pastel?

Very, very nice in any case!

Ghireptiles Aug 04, 2009 08:54 PM

The head looks really cool!

here are a couple of shots of mom

Here are a few shots of the others in the clutch

Zefdin Aug 04, 2009 10:00 PM

Mom really knows how to ham it up in front of the camera...LOL!

She looks about as normal as you can get - no?

Somethings going on thats for sure. You should keep ALL the babies and the mother and the father and plan you next move as far as selectively breeding these guys to find out whats going on genetically very carefully.

anthony james mc Aug 04, 2009 09:19 PM

Now that's really different , man if that's genetic look out ! Talk about endless combos that could make if genetic! Best of luck with this one!

That is a very cool looking snake but does anyone besides me think that the head looks badly deformed? Aren’t the eyes about a 1/4 of an inch further up than they should be?

it's face is a little goofy. I don't see anything else wrong with it...yet. It's still half in the egg, so hopefully by morning I'll know more and get some better shots posted.

jason Aug 04, 2009 10:18 PM

I was wondering that too. He is very cool looking, though, I hope it does well.

CrazyGecko Aug 04, 2009 10:26 PM

Almost looks like it has a duckbill that super cinnis get.

Zefdin Aug 04, 2009 10:40 PM

Also, its hard to tell, but it almost looks like it might have a kink like the Super Cin Blk Pastels..

Awesome looking whatever.

Maki Aug 05, 2009 07:52 AM

That's outrageous! If it's genetic, there is incredible combo potential. The eyes do look a bit anteriorly placed, though it could be the different head pattern that is making it look off. I really hope it does well for you.

Zefdin Aug 05, 2009 08:44 AM

I wasn't the person to bring it up? I hope all goes well for the snake and for the person who hatched it. There are know issues with Black Pastels & Cinnys Supers, just like with Caramels, Pearls and many others.. It's not being mean or outrageous to discuss potential problems that are know or unknown as of yet. We are all adults here. I would want input from as many people as possible if it was the other way around...

Lighten up, knothing anyone says makes a bit of difference in the end anyway. I wish I had this guys problems, if he even has any.

kingofspades Aug 04, 2009 10:17 PM

Looks like a paradox super...and your "normal" may not be normal.

Very cool! Looks like a paradox super black pastel to me, but like others have stated, that female could not look more normal than that... I can hardly see the possibility of her being a Cinnamon or Black Pastel... if so, she is the most un-obvious one I've ever seen or heard of! Definitely attempt the same breeding... I wouldn't be surprised next breeding will produce normal looking super black pastels, but that's just a guess obviously...

Good luck and post more pictures when it's out and shed!!

Regards,
Bristen.

Every year we are seeing WILD, one of a kind, stuff hatch from unlikely pairings. Some of these animals will be non-genetic aberrations, others will be egg-stressed animals that will fail to thrive and perish. A select VERY FEW will prove to be genetic!! Best of luck on this guy being the later!!! He is cool in color and pattern for sure!!!!

with the number of anomalies in the ball python hobby being mixed matched normals carrying who knows what being mixed and then bred unknowingly to proven morphs, many normals in this hobby will catch up , if they haven't already to the potpourri of corn snake traits and how they effect each other is in it's infancy and will likely create all the possibilities you just mentioned and then some.

Thanks,

FRoberts Aug 05, 2009 12:11 PM

awesome.....As others said I would repeat that breeding again and since mom is "normal" looking I would keep all the offspring till you know what is going on. Posts like yours keep people dreaming and wondering and make or hobby more fn then it would be, although normal ball python babies excite me when I see them pop of the shell, but lets be serious, that kinda hatchling is MEGA exciting!!!!

It's out of the egg. Here are a few pics. No kinks, it just wouldn"t untie itself for thr pictures

Mouth looks deformed to me.

jayefbe Aug 05, 2009 03:08 PM

yup

bristen Aug 05, 2009 03:00 PM

It looks very cool... I'd like to see closeup of the face if that would be possible... it does look weird, but perhaps nothing too serious... I hope it does well for you, that's an awesome looking animal

Bristen.

You can sometimes outcross the defects from the animal with new blood. The first thing is to prove it out, is it the female? Is it the male? Together? You have alot of fun work ahead of you. You will have to come up with a strategy.

Best of luck. I hope you didnt take any comments to heart.I am pulling for you and one awesome new addition as this would be. can you say Black Pied..Midnight Pied..it goes on and on.

Lpd209 Aug 05, 2009 03:24 PM

It is a butter face. I'll just be happy if it lives!

alicecobb Aug 06, 2009 04:03 AM

Great looking addition! We're keeping our fingers crossed that everything is OK and it eats well and grows into a robust adult.
