CR 123 lithium batteries for Princeton

steveboyd Aug 05, 2009 08:26 AM

Lance,

Can you use the rechargeable CR 123 in this unit? If not, do you know of the cheapest place to purchase them?

Thanks,

Steve

Here's an excellent CR123 battery at a nice price even with shipping:

The princeton tec apex used AA batteries. They make a rechargable pack but I have not used it... the headlamp is what you saw is using this year and last year... and the year before... several years old but still beyond most others out there.

Hope all is well!

If you are using a princeton apex then I would think not, mine is a AA rig, and I just use bulk packs of alkaline batteries (about $10 for 36 at academy sports and outdoors). That is 9 times around in my headlamp.

I prefer to go to the .99 Cents stores for all my AA alkaline battery needs. You can pick up a 4 pack of Panasonic, Varta, Sony or Rayovac AA alkaine for $.99.

They are cheap yes, but often they are like 4 years old before they get on the shelf there... I have not had the best luck with them and will spend the extra $3-4 to get the confidence of quality.

BTW, I prefer to use the term “inexpensive”. In fact, I just purchased forty Rayovac alkalines that had use-by-dates of 2013, for $10. At night, I have to set up a portable black light for moths and beetles that requires eight AA alkies per night to feed and really needed to find an inexpensive quality battery source. I started with Varta, but began using Panasonic when Vartas were out of stock. I’ve had no quality issues with these batteries for the last five years. That $7.99 Nightbuster led handheld I used in 2005 ran with .99 Cents store batteries-lol.

$11.98 led handheld. It was SEVEN led. I should read my own story more often...lol

thanks for the info. The light I purchased requires 2 cr 123. Can this be converted to AA? I did order the Cr123 through the battery junction at $1.00 each. Good price!
Thanks again.

What's the model name of the flashlight?

lbenton Aug 05, 2009 10:21 AM

You got the Apex "Pro" instead of the plain old Apex. You will be very happy with it and I expect it work every bit as well as our older more "classic" apex. But we have different models. The sales point on the pro model is that it is 2 ounces lighter with the dual CR123 batter rig instead of the AAx4 ours has.

I imagine the rechargeables will work great for you in that case.
