Pesticides?

tcdrover Aug 05, 2009 12:33 PM

I've avoided having my place fumigated because I had a pregnant
boa and a puppy, plus I'm generally very cautious about
chemicals.

I'm curious what other people do about fumigation. I have a
major problem with little moth like bugs. They're not termites
or moths. They're bigger than ants & have powder on their wings
like moths. I'm afraid of calling Orkin & not just because I
don't know what they will charge.

I believe I know the type of bug your talking about,I call them little "Miller's"
I believe they hatch out of little meal worm type larvae possibly they are "Indian meal moth"
You have any small lizards you feed anything or have feed grains
for mice or rats ?
They can be found in feed grains often.

As far as getting rid of them my point is to
find the original source

I think it is a large bag of dog food. I'm throwing it out
as soon as I get home. I searched online and found the same
info as you indicated.

Those nasty little things are crawling all over my kitchen
ceiling. It was just painted white so they really stick out.
It does seem like they are close to where I have that
bag.

I really do not want to fumigate. I keep finding baby house
geckos. I don't mind in the least sharing my place with them.

My family and I have used a company called Protech that is local here and they don't "spray" anything that aerosolizes. All of their pesticides are in a bait form and they claim they are applied and distributed in a way that is both environmentally friendly and safe. We had ants so they put ant poison into the walls and such and sealed every opening in the house. I don't like any kind of pesticide for warm-blooded creatures just because I see how they have to die. We treat dogs at our hospital for rat poison ingestion and it's not pretty. I like good ole fashioned manual rat and mouse traps if I have to use something, but for bugs I'd contact some of the local pest services and see what they can do.
