rossalleni transition pics

This male I acquired last year is REALLY coloring-up rather nicely as I expected from seeing photos of the mother last year. It's juvenile pattern is just about undiscernible now.
Enjoy!

~Doug

this one was taken a few months ago on 5/9/09, he is even much bigger and colorful now, and is 40" long!

I love watching those little fellas color up. Looking real good. You'll be very happy with the final result.

Thanks, man!. Yes, I couldn't ask for it to progress any nicer. Tom Crutchfield invited me down to his place in Homestead to go looking for a nice locality female to pair him up with when the weather cools down a bit more. I'll certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for a few other species while we're out and about as well.
I do know it's mother was from Hendry County(just west of Palm Beach County), so that's always nice to know. I'm one of those guys that want to know every detail possible about the animals I own and produce.

Thanks again!, ~Doug

He looks really nice. I have a yearling female that looks almost identical to him. They would make a great pair. I did pick up an 09 male this summer, but I don't know if he will turn out as nice. I'll post some pics of each after my female sheds. Nice snake.

Great looking snake Doug. Everglades are beautiful animals. I used to catch lots of yellows and yellow/everglades mixes as a kid but every now and then we would run across one that looked to be pure rossalleni. No matter how many I see I still think they are beautiful.

DMong Aug 07, 2009 08:06 PM

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I used to run across quite a few of both types in south Florida back in the 70's.Pure rossalleni sure have taken a beating in the past couple of decades due to all the land development and drainage. Yellows seem to be much better acclimated in the more drained territories of their range.

take care!, ~Doug

Killer series of pics! That is a handsome snake for sure. 'Glades have always been my favorite Obseleta complex snake.

Thanks for the kind words!...

Yeah, I tend to agree with you there, They're my favorite obsoleta as well. I've also liked a few of the super nice pure strains of quadrivittata that I've captured around the east coast of central Florida. No influence whatsoever from anything else!..LOL!

best regards, ~Doug
