Sunburst ,Cosmic tragedy & news

rkreptiles Aug 08, 2009 01:30 PM

We had high hopes this season for our Sunburst/Cosmic project this season with losing the only male sunburst early on this season. We received 3 eggs from Spider X Sunburst that are still incubating, 3 eggs from sunburst X Sunburst that perished early on in their incubation and 6 eggs from Sunburst X Cosmic mom. Well of the 6 eggs we lost 2 early on and the remaining for are as follows. 2 perished what seems to be just days before piping and both appear to be the super form of the cosmic morph. They were both white snakes with black banding. 1 of the other eggs was a regular pastel and the final eggs appears to be a pastel super cosmic. This animal was all pink with black banding. The Sunburst (pastel cosmic) when born have a lot of pink on their sides which seems to follow with this animal. Unfortunately both of these animals perished 2 days after piping. They both were both poking their heads out and moving around and just died. We now have more work ahead for next season to try and produce and further prove the super form of this morph but breeding Cosmic males to Sunburst females as well as breeding the original parents again to try and produce another sunburst male for ourselves. Below is a pic taken this morning of the possible pastel super cosmic. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Let me start off by saying sorry for the tragedy of loss of snakes.

The snake in the photo is awesome looking but it seems like you may have homo lethal gene on your hands like the Womas pearl.

I remember your post about the male who died unexpectly with no reason. It may be that the gene or genes at work may be the reasn for the fatality rate.

Just my two cents..

Yea I have to agree with the others, losing all of those animals is no coincidence. But I hope its just bad luck and things turn around for the better next season.

Thanks everyone. I am pretty sure that it is not a lethal gene but more breeding will most definitley be in store. I feel that when we lost the adult male sunburst that it had something to do with his URI that he had earlier. We still have 4 female sunburst (2 adults and 2 sub-adults), the original mother "cosmic" and 2.2 "cosmic" (3 adult males and 2 sun adult females). that are all doing awesome. Hopefully next year will be an exceptional year with this project.
