Strange question........

DJW Sep 15, 2003 09:23 PM

I purchased 2 "baby" kings (fed twice) both from the same vender
Because they where in my opinion the best bet, price and quality,
I noticed something strange that i have not seen before but i am
Inexperienced,
The two kings a albino male and a desert phase female have the same weird "slit" less than an inch above the vent...........
I’m not sure how to explain it but it's not an open cut, and it
Does not seem to interfere, hurt the snake -but they both have the
Same slit like mark.....
My first thought was that it had something to do with probing?
But that would not make any sense considering that the mark is in
The same exact spot on both the male and the female?
Soooooooooo.........umbilical cord type thing maybe?
any idea's? or facts WILL be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
DJW

that's where the snake is attached to the egg sac. It usually seals right after hatching. It's unusual for it to be open in a snake that's fed twice. Or maybe you're just seeing the healed scar.

anyway, that's what it is, and every snake has it -- already sealed & healed or not -- immediately after hatching.

Well, i've never noticed it on snakes after their first shed. It's just a hatchling phenomenon.

Strange. I've always found it pretty easy to notice through at least the first eighteen months and if you're looking for it you can usually see it no matter how old the snake is.
