A few more Reds from Last Year

John Q Aug 09, 2009 09:11 AM

Just a few of the '08's that I held back. They're coloring up nicely as they mature. These are all '08's and it was the first year of breeding for the Red male and all of the females. Small but nice clutches. Not the best pics as I had to rush through this photo session and I'm still learning how to use my digital SLR. Not sure how other people feel about this transition but there are times that I feel like switching back to my Nikon point and shoot.
I really washed out the color on this pic but you still get the idea. This was a Red x Green breeding. The Red one is much more Red than in the pic. The other one is more interesting to me because the blotches are Red and the ground color is very Green. It's the only one like this and I have never seen another hog like this.

Next is a pair from a Red x Albino breeding. The Red one has the dorsal stripe like its mother. The other one is not coloring up. May be a late bloomer or will look normal and just carry the genes to produce a higher amount of Red.

Then there's the Red x Red group. These show the two forms of Red that can be produced. Red on Red or Red on a lighter background that gives the snake a much higher contrast. I'm not sure if I like these as much as the Red on Red but a good friend of mine that breeds hogs really likes these better.

Hi John,

Those compare & contrast pics are fantastic!

I really like the top photo, snake on the left....those big block saddles are my idea of a very, very attractive western hog.

They look great!!!

I show you 2 pics from our colection. I like this combination of both colors and it looks better in person.

One is a big female and the other one is a hatchling from 2008.
Both have a litle bonus
