Enchi or not?

wRobio Aug 09, 2009 08:59 PM

I have had this girl for over a year and I have always really loved her pattern and how amazing her yellows are, her pattern always seemed like something I had seen somewhere. It just dawned on me while turning through the pages of the NERD Ball Python book today, where I have seen the pattern. She looks very similar to the Enchi featured in the book. I am curious to know what you all think, as I have never seen an Enchi in person. The picture is from a few months ago. She is currently in a pre-lay shed, so I did not feel like pulling her out for a photo. Any input is appreciated and encouraged.

She hooked up with a Mojave a few times, and my pastel male a few times, so we will find out shortly if she is just a pastel with a lot of fun banding, or if I scored and Enchi.

But I would say no. I've hatched out ceveral clutches of Enchis though. I almost gave one away as a normal until I took a really close post first shed look and decided it's a drab enchi. They can be very hard to tell sometimes. The difference between a great one and a drab one is unbelievable.

Sure it isn't a regular Pastel??? Not the prettiest Pastel but looks most like that to me. She looks a little small for a female breeder to me too, not enough girth to ovulate , may breed but unlikely to ovulate until bigger.

I purchased her as a pastel from someone who had her as a pet, not a breeder. She just has a lot of banding, so I thought there might be a chance I scored. Also, as I mentioned that picture is from a few months back. January I believe. She has already and is in her pre-lay shed. I don't expect her to be an enchi, I have just never seen a pastel with a pattern like that.

She is a Pastel like she was sold as I'm sure. Hopefully she lays a good clutch for you and gained alot after that pic was taken. I myself won't even try them until they are at least near 1500 grms , isn't worth what you end up with otherwise.

I assume she is a pastel, but it is nice to dream, and you have to admit, her pattern is pretty lacking is any "alien heads" or much blushing. She is actually quite pretty in person, she gets brighter yellow with every shed.

I agree, I won't breed a female that is not right around 1400-1500 or above. assuming all factors are right, and she is not a five foot female weighing in at 1500, then she has to sit out for a year. She fit right into the 1400-1500 category.

She doesn't look like an enchi to me -- what does her belly look like? what is her eye color?

Eyes are silver on the top half. Belly is clear.

I really know very little about Enchis, other than they have a good deal of banding, and can be rather yellow, but mostly look relatively normal.

So, if anyone who does know a lot about them would like to chime in and tell me everything you look for in one, I would love to know, for future reference.

Enchis and pastels both have green eyes. As babies enchis can be somewhat more difficult to spot but they grow into their coloring and as adults they are very coppery and easy to spot.

You might want to post some more detailed shots of her -- maybe someone can spot something that might help you determine what she could be -- or at least she is a very nice normal.

Good luck with her.

Right, I am partially colorblind so the green of their eyes looks very silvery to me. Anyways, her eyes look like all my other pastels, and she is probably just a pastel, like my other pastels.

I will not give me anymore detailed shots of her right now, see as she is busy being gravid and in a pre-lay shed. No matter what happens I will end up with super-pastels or pastaves at the very least(if the odds are with me)
