hi guys im new to the forum, i have been keeping reptiles for years, and have a decent amount of exp....but what i dont have exp in is breeding, i have recently decided to take the leap and turn my hobby into a career...now here is my problem...i have an adult anery that has been probed, hes between 6-7 scales on each side...i was recently at the hamburg show and an adult hondo supposed to be female was for sale...well i jumped on that...i was told she had never been bred and took the vendors word for it...i brumate my snakes every year just for the practice of it..and i know breeding season is kind of off now, but i wanted to see what would happen when i placed them together...the new hondo became very sexually agressive and was trying to copulate with my male, but something didnt seem right...so i took "her" out and probed her which i should have done in the begining..and suprise it went down at least 8 scales on both vents...so i guess what i have been rambling on about is why 2 males are attempting to mate? and why havent they become aggressive with one another? my anery shown not much interest...but the other keeps attempting to copulate? whats wrong with this picture? help please?

I guess that some males will just go for anything.

I had a simmilar problem with my breeding atempts this year.

A few years ago I bought a hatchling male to go with my 2 female kings. This year I put "him" in with one of the girls for the first time and "he" lifted "his" tail and she was climbing all over "him". I know for sure that Queen, the female, is a female as I got eggs from her last year. Now I seem to have 3 adult females and no adult male kings.

I also have 2 corns that I am very confident are males who live in 1 large tank together. They often get twitchy and crall all over eathother and get frisky. They don't go any farther than cralling on each other but that is better than them fighting, wich they never do.

All I can say is thats snakes for you. But I looks like when you do get a female the male will probably be rareing to go. LOL

There have been several cases where one male snake tried to mate with another in captivity. A few years back in Reptiles magazine, one of the largest snake breeders in the country saw this happen and submitted the experience to the "Herp Queries" of "Ask the Vet" column (I can't remember which one).

But this sort of thing does happen on occasion.
