no disrespect, but there arent many timbers out there. collecting them in the wild can really make an impact on the population..why did you decide to keep it??

greg woodie Sep 16, 2003 04:05 PM

i'm not going to keep it. i just wanted to get some really decent pictures and maybe some video of it before i release it. i am fully aware of their status in the ecosystem.

well ya never know how aware someone is on the matter..i appreciate the response..we're not fortunate enough to have many timbers in this area.( west ky )...

you're welcome. i hope i didn't come off sounding like a smart-aleck. that was not my intention. i'm 38 and have been studying snakes since i was 9 or 10, but i'm far from being an expert. i'm still learning. i learn something new every day. i try to read as much as i can. where in Kentucky are you from? i would've thought Timbers were fairly common in that state. see, i just learned something else! do you see alot of Copperheads? i know this isn't the right forum, but how common are Eastern Milks in your area? i caught the first one of my life back in May in Bedford County, Virginia. i still have him and he's awesome! i'm gonna try and post a new pic of him soon. do you have any pics in the gallery of snakes from Kentucky? i'd love to see some! well, didn't mean to talk your ear off, ha! it's nice meeting you.
later,
greg

no problem ..i'm 45 and have had snakes all my life also.ive bred alot, but got rid of most about 5 years ago.i'n slowley working back into it. i'm in far western ky ( paducah )... illinois is just right across the ohio river, thats where i do most of my herping.i usually just film and photograph them..there are lots of cottonmouths around southern illinois and here in ky.. i just found a cottonmouth den 3 weeks ago. ive heard there are timbers in this area, but i have never seen one.. ive talked to people in illinois not far from here that have.. there are suppose to be quite a few in eastern ky, but i'm 6 hours from there..i am going to "pine hills" in illinois in 2 weeks to see the snake migration.. they close the road because so many snakes cross it to get to their den... lots of cottonmouths, rattlesnakes , copperheads and plenty of others.they're protected there.. you ever heard of it??there are alot of copperheads around here , they're just hard to find.. i find them in my yard more than anywhere., never seen an eastern milksnake here though they're suppose to be here...lots of black kings, racers, rat snakes etc... i dont have any pics posted,,but plan to. where are you located?? ,,, bob
