Diet Info?

Just curious as this was recently brought up on the bearded dragon forum, but I often see super worms used quite often for tegus...............Now is it possible for tegus to get fatty liver disease from eating foods that would contain too high of a fat content(such as supers)? With dragons this problem may not be noticeable until later on down the road and then it is sometimes too late. I just dont want to feed too many of them if anyone knows if there is the potential there for a problem. What other foods do you feed your young blues? Mine are still adjusting, but so far have really only taken crix and supers.......and boy do they like to burrow also. I went with a soil mix that I need to add some sand too I think, but for now they have two seperate hides/burrows that go down into a soil/vermiculite mix that they love to stay in. Chris Allen

I noticed that the superworms have a higher fat content then crickets according to the site you gave www.reptilefood.com. The only thing is tegus quickly out grow superworms as a food source were the bearded dragons could very well be eatting them as adults. My tegus only ate superworms for maybe a few months, once they approach 3' long the worms are just so relatively small that most people will switch to mice by then. I would think the food that they eat for the next 10 years would play more of a significant roll in any long term risk associated with fat.
I know it seems weird after owning bearded dragons but it’s normal for tegus to stay in their den for almost all day. It was tough when I first got them but after seeing them a little while every day for months it doesn't bother me any more.
