Het pied "true" ringers

J35J Aug 10, 2009 07:33 PM

So I have a ringer possible het pied here. Does this ringer make it 100% het pied or is it still a possible het and the ringer proves nothing?

See the little section of white, highlighted by the typical pied orange color on the side of its belly.

Thanks!
Jason

I should clarify a little...the parents for the above ringer is a 100% het male to a possible het female.

The same 100% male proved out another female of mine and this is the little lady that freshly shed today from that pairing...

Anyway...the question still stands. Does a possible het pied with the ringer shown in the first post prove that it is a het pied or does it mean nothing?

Thanks again!
Jason

its funny i was just on youtube watching a ralph davis video about ringers. check it out sometime.
but ralph was saying that the ring is almost always around an inch up from the vent. now im sure their are exceptions but you may even have a really really low white pied(but i doubt it)
though possible

It hasn't been proven that the ringer proves them out...Also thats not a low white pied because it has the "normal" pattern not the wacked out that pied's have.If its a female I would keep her.

Ringers do tend to show up more often in het pieds than any other type of ball python, but it doesn't guarantee anything. I consider possible het pieds that show any of the marker traits to be more likely to be hets than those that don't. The ringer trait does make it more desirable whether you plan to keep it or sell it!

This one has great pied markers and the ringer, he did turn out to be a het. The pied markers and/or ringer don't prove anything, but they are sure nice to see and should give you much more confidence.

Has anyone had a ringer such as these that DIDN'T turn out to be a het?

Thanks!

I think all of the ones mentioned were from pied breedings and were possible hets, I would bet that any from pied hets with a ringer are going to prove out to be hets. If you are going to keep it yourself and try to prove it, you can be confident that you are going to get pieds. You can not sell it as 100% het pied though.
