Rack Questions

lilman Aug 10, 2009 09:39 PM

I am thinking of building my own rack for my balls. I found a 5 level utility shelf that has adjustable shelves. I would be able to put 3 breeder sized females and 4 adult males in this unit. This will be more than enough for me at this time. My questions are these. The shelf unit is made of pine. I know you can’t use pine as bedding because of the oils and what not but would it be adequate for an actual housing structure? Also I have scene several D.I.Y. racks where people house uth on bookshelf type racks with plastic tubs. Wouldn’t the tubs melt or even worse cause a fire on the rack?

Any help is welcome. Please let me know your experinces.

as for the pine i think it would be alrite cuz the snakes not in direct contact w it and can irritate the skin. and no the tubs will not melt as long as u hold the bp hot spot at the rite temp. 90-95. it works really well. how much is the pine shelf?

Is the shelf finished? What type of tubs are you planning on using? Tubs tops or just tubs?

If you aren't planning on using tops I wouldn't use any wood that wasn't already finished some way. Also, heat tape shouldn't catch fire unless it is damaged somehow.
