Aggression within a Leo group

EricIvins Sep 15, 2003 10:37 PM

Has anyone ever expierienced female to female aggression within a group of leos? I have a 1.3 group and two of the females seem to be getting worse. Tonight I found a nice gaping wound on one of the females; all the others have no marks on them. Should I seperate the one with the wound on it? The 1.2 seem to get along pretty well so what should I do?

I just looked over each individual and found all of the females have some type of bite wound/marks, but the male doesn't. The group has been together for around 3 weeks or so. I guess I may have to seperate them all out? Has anyone ever had a expierience like this?

This can be common in breeding groups. The male has a tendency to start biting (somtimes not as gently as others) at the tail of the females and work their way up. Some males are more aggresive than others. If your male gets to rough try seperating him from the group. Hope this helps, Jeremy.

I added a female to my 1.1 group. This female ended up a recluse living at the other end of the tank and was bullied by the orignal male and female.

After a week of this I took everything out the tank washed it all, new substrate etc etc. I put them back in and now they all get along fine curling up together under their log.

I suggest you seperate them for awhile and get them all nice fat and back to full health then clear out the large enclosure you want them to live in and reintroduce the 3 femals to it. Then after a few days add the male. This worked for me without any problems.

Jil.
