Question about Australian Short Necked red bellies...

rudedogsurfrat Sep 15, 2003 10:40 PM

I had a yearling Australian red bellied short neck turtle. Now the shell is about 5 inches long. His name is Bandit and I bought him on this site for $45 last year.
It got to the point that I could no longer care for him so the local petstore took over. The owner is not familiar with this species and there are no breeders nearby so she does not know how much to sell it for.
Can someone please help me and give me a ballpark figure so I can pass it on?

Any help will be appreciated.

if the owner is not familiar with the species, isn't it pretty irresponsible for him/her to take it? how will he care for it? how will he tell whomever he sells it to how to care for it?
this is pretty uncool.
i'd recommend asking for care advise from scott thompson and his buddies over at

australian turtles

Bootylicious,
your judgemental response was not quite what I was looking for.
As you can recheck in my original post the question was how much is it worth, not can you please find a way to make me feel worse.

The care of this turtle was explained to me as "similar to most domestic water turtles" by the breeder. I'm positive with a bit of research anyone can find information about the intricate details of the special care of one of these wonderful animals.

I appreciate your concerns of the well being of this turtle and of the incompetence of this store owner but I would just like to know how much she should sell it for.

Thank you.

Sorry,
sometimes a little barking gets people to do a little thinking.
But it seems you've done that. I do hope for the sake of the animal that the pet store guy does some research. As for the price, glance through the classifieds and see if any are for sale, then jack up the price by 30 -50 percent for a pet store sale. Also if you ask the people on the list i mentioned what they sell for in USD, they may know. That group has several american members. But be cautious with your wording or you might get more nasty stuff like you got from me.
