Guess Who's Coming Over For Dinner ?????

fgs Aug 12, 2009 09:53 AM

That's what my wife said to me last Sunday afternoon as I was dismantling my booth at the San Jose Reptile Show. I was curious so I asked who. The answer topped off what had already been a great weekend, Nigel she said. I said you've got to be kidding me!!!!!

Nigel Marven had been at the show all weekend as our guest speaker and I had only been able to say hi to him once. The thought of having him over at my house for dinner was almost curial. My wife told me how she figured since he had driven out to San Jose from Florida that he would probably appreciate a home cooked meal so she went up to him and asked him if he liked enchiladas. She said his eyes about popped out of his head when he said yes!

Before I knew it I was driving down the highway to my house with Nigel Marven and Jim and Mary Alexander the Herp World Expo promoters close behind.

To say the least it was a great evening sitting around talking and laughing with Nigel as if we were old friends.

Here are a few photos my wife and I took of Nigel in my snake room as I showed him my collection.

Nigel really liked the male Lipstick Sunglow that I got from Mike Panichi.

Here's Nigel holding onto my female sunglow motley that was pictured in the ad of the September issue of Reptiles Magazine that promoted the San Jose Herp World Expo.

Here we are looking at one of my piebald ball pythons.

I hope those that went to show had a great time. It will obviously go down as one of my favorites.

Thanks Babe.......

that is just cool as hell! I must admit, I'm jealous, LOL. Well who better than you Brian to show a guy like Nigel what a real setup looks like. I'm sure even with all of his experience, he was impressed. Take care. Mike Panichi

Nigel's a great guy and left my house here headed for CA. He's a genuine unpretentious very knowledgeable herper. Also I've worked with him proffesionally and he's the real deal. We've been together in the water with big crocs, worked with venomous and lg boids, plus many other herps. He knows his stuff and unlike many TV stars actually likes and maintains a lg collection of breeding herps in the U.K. When he's here in S. Florida Patty does his laundry and he eats here regularly. In short he's "good people" and a LOT of fun to go field collecting with.

Here is a pic in my front yard on the Fourth of July cookout we had here at the farm. That's Ray Van Nostrand sr. on the right...

Talk about a once in a lifetime experience, how cool is that? Your wife rocks! You think he came to see the snakes or only for the enchiladas? hee!

Sounds like you both had a great time, I can only imagine how much fun that must have been! Thanks for sharing the pics. Sorry I missed the show.

She looks very nice Mr. G.
Is she on a blue cloth or did you just change the color of the background. Any juicey males planned for her yet.

fgs Aug 12, 2009 06:53 PM

This will be the first male I will put her to. A lipstick sunglow I got from Mike Panichi.

Nice sunglow, the lipsticks are awesome. I thought the albino x albino was not a smart choice? Thoughts?

fgs Aug 12, 2009 08:45 PM

My hope is that there is enough genetic diversity between the albino, hypo and motley that the offspring from this project will be strong and without any genetic defects.
