Pine shavings?

WingedPoe Sep 15, 2003 10:55 PM

hi! I'm just setting up the new cage for my Tegu (2.5x 6.5) and I have been reading a lot of debates about substrate. When I bought her from LLLReptile, I brought her home in a tank with a type of finely chiped pine shaving. Can pine shavings still be used as adults or is cypress mulch (which I couldn't find at home depot) better? Or how about those small bark chips? Thanks for the help!

Ground coconut fiber. It's what Bert suggests on his site http://www.agamainternational.com/merianae_housing.shtml
After what Russ said about hearing that peat moss could be a potential problem I'm going to give it a shot. I just got some today and it's just like peat moss anyways but it dosn't hold quite as much water. Bert's site also says it's not prone to mildew or mold. Here's a link if you want to see what I'm talking about.

Hey, I got my Tegu from LLLReptile, you could probably have one of his sisters.
