Although i think that snake would look really cool. I dont think that it is possible.

Correct me if I am wrong but red eyes mean albinism of some kind, which also mean the lack of melanin or black pigment. SO as far as I know (which is very little BTW) I dont think an all black snake with red eyes is possible. But who knows with what is going on lately.

Hi,

I breed my rats out with red eyes all the time. I get brown ones and black and white ones and siamese with red eyes. So wouldn't it be possible to have red eyes in a black snake? I have no idea personally, and I am sure the guy is probably confused. I am still learning my genetics but I saw a rat the other day at a pet store and it had a red eye and a black eye and it was multi colored. I had never seen anything so cool.

I think rats/mice can have red eyes without it being associated with a form of albanism - where as the same cannot be said for balls.

I'm not completey up on my rodent genetics, but I believe it's called "dilute" when rodents have color with red eyes (I have a few). As far as I know, snakes have to be displaying some form of albinism/almelanism to have red eyes.

treesnake28 Aug 13, 2009 12:05 PM

i didn't think it was possible either but then i started thinking and thought maybe about a very high type of albino paradox im not sure though it was a crazy thing to hear about

I'd say your guy smokes some heavy sh.t! proof is in the pudding, no pics, no credibelity

jason Aug 13, 2009 09:08 AM

I worked in a pet store for 11 years, and there were constantly people coming in claiming to have incredible or bizzare things, including reptiles people had never seen before. The only problem is, no one ever made good with proof.

If he genuinely hatched this snake, it would be a one of a kind animal. But until you see actual proof (If I were you, I'd want to see the actual snake, it's fairly simple to photoshop a solid black ball python with red eyes), I'd say he's BSing you to try and impress people.

treesnake28 Aug 13, 2009 12:09 PM

we were trying to get him to come back but he never did

Paul Hollander Aug 13, 2009 12:01 PM

I'm a bit doubtful about the solid black with red eyes.

If one parent was a blue-eyed leucistic, the baby would have to have a mojave gene, lesser platinum gene, or one of the other genes from the white snake complex in the genetic mix.

A caramel albino would have pink eyes but would be a lot lighter than black.

If the guy isn't pulling your leg, he may have something new. I'd sure like to see it if it's for real.

Agree with Paul , not likely something like that could be made using those types of parents. Would be interesting to see if it really even exists.

i dont know about all of u but just hearing his first snake he ever bred was a BEL kinda makes me think he is full of it. not to mention the rest of the short story, did he say ne thing else hatched out?

treesnake28 Aug 14, 2009 12:29 AM

yeah its crazy and he say there was there was other stuff but forgot

can't see this being possible. If the guy ever comes back, ask him to bring the snake in so you can see it. Even offer him a couple free frozen rats for his trouble of bringing it in. (a solid black snake with red eyes would be cool..though I doubt its a ball python, if it exists at all).

Ball pythons lack natural red pigment in their eyes I beleive...any pink or red eyes seen in ball pythons is due to lack of pigment (the reddish color is actually blood vessels and capillaries showing through the eye). Some snakes do have naturally red eyes...I think some blood pythons do...but not sure on that.

I rarely ever bet, but I would bet that this snake does not exist. I agree with irishanaconda, a BEL Ball was his first snake breeding??? Suuuuuure it was.

If this guy does come back in, then let him know that I bred one that sings and dances. LOL

treesnake28 Aug 14, 2009 12:34 AM

it wasnt 2 BELs it was a BEL to somthing if he comes in ill ask him for a pic and what else he bred it to
