Python Capture Was Staged

HappyHillbilly Aug 13, 2009 03:21 PM

Bradenton man staged python capture:
www2.tbo.com/content/2009/aug/13/131454/fish-wildlife-trapper-faked-capture-14-foot-python/news-breaking/

"It turns out that the trapper, Justin Matthews, had purchased the Burmese python from a wholesale dealer in Tampa a month before he trapped it near a Sweetbay supermarket in Bradenton, authorities said."

"I did it for wildlife education,"

I would love to educate Justin Matthews. What a genius!!!

"A few months ago, Matthews' python actually was loose in south Hillsborough County. Vernon Yates, owner of Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation in Seminole, captured it then. He recognized the snake on television when Matthews displayed it for the cameras.

"We found it running at large in south Hillsborough County a few months ago," Yates said. "We knew where it came from and the owner didn't want it."

"Matthews is keeping the snake, which he named Sweetie, and will use it as an educational exhibit."

Florida officials are gonna let Matthews keep the snake? And they wonder why they have the problems they do...... Go figure!

I'd better go clean some cages now to work off some frustration.

I think the article ends great, especially for a newspaper article. I tip my hat to the author and say, "Thank you!"

Ya'll keep 'em straight out there!

I doubt in Florida he will be charged . In most states yes and my old state of PA but not here in Florida.

This place is so backwards that I am starting to think that the media will still report staged python sightings/captures even when they KNOW its staged .

I met guys while back setting a "stage" by Glades road .They "saw" albino stunning python and posted pics/video pffft and you can tell it was bogus .

iwasnt saying charged for the staging of the capture but i for the animal not being micro chipped like the roc permit requires.

I saw this-typical of the kind of mindset we are up against with these AR morons. They will resort to any trickery to meet their aims-and to think they believe that THEY have the "moral high ground"...

There has been a number of suspicious incidents . Particularly following the death of the little girl .

The following is a statement from Gloria Johnson who is a member of the FWC’s Captive Wildlife Technical Assistance Group . This group reviews all FWC rules to update safety measures and ensure happiness to the animals........,

If you are familiar with ARA’s you’ve heard the names PETA, HSUS, ELF, ALF and individuals such as Carol Baskin of Big Cat Rescue (Tampa FL) who becomes their spokesmen every opportunity she has. The following is not a statement from angry animal owners, but from the FBI Deputy Assistant Director and top official in charge of domestic terrorism who stated “The number one domestic terrorism threat is the eco-terrorism animal rights movement. These groups have a history of disregarding personal and civil rights of citizens in attempts to further their own agenda..” They do bizarre things such as let others big cats lose to report false sightings and scare the public, and claim we are irresponsible regarding safety issues.

Their newest tactic is to call in multiple false complaints on the few who have the guts to stand up to them. State and the Federal Officials know what is going on and are angry themselves. It not only wastes their time, but wastes taxpayer money

The whole thing really makes me sick!

The guy hides this snake in a culvert next to an elementary school to scare the public. Then when cameras show up to film the 'captive', he's provoking the python into striking to make a big show of things.

It's utterly ridiculous! Shame on the FWC for allowing this bonehead to keep the snake after he admitted to releasing it and falsifying a report.

I agree but the media here WANT's these stories and seem to turn a blind eye to all these python captures that make you go "hmmm".

We drove by Flamigo park-Homestead and few other places one night last week .
Few were out there doing the same lol. NOT ONE person saw a python or had ever but some were there with dog crate with python and very easy to stage it .
Call media and they are there right away as makes great story.
In time we will see people dressed in python costumes running down the road with Florida media reporting it lol.

MOST are staged and I know 2 guys who take 'creative liberties" with this dense easily fooled Florida ,media who in truth seems not to care if fake.

I dont know a single Glades ranger who has actually seen a non staged python . The actual numbers of feral pythons aren't a fraction of what sen Nelson claims.

I actually wonder if there are even a hundred out there never mind a thousand.

I like this quote from another article:

"I personally think everybody in the state of Florida ought to go smack him upside his head for the damage that he has done to the pet industry to start with," added (Vernon) Yates, (owner of Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation in Seminole).

Wait for me, I'll be down there in a few days.

"He could swallow an 8 year old without no problem"

They must have much smaller 8 year olds in florida than we have in new york.
