Any breeders in Chicago, IL area?

DKiM128 Sep 16, 2003 12:03 AM

I wanted to find a breeder near the Chicago Area, in IL. I know that there are many good sources online to buy frogs, but I actually want to go and pick out the frogs I want. To ensure they are what I want, and their conditions. If you live near that animals and offer Dart Frogs or any of their necessary needs. Please help me!!

I live near the chicagoland area and to my knowledge we dont have that many breeders around here.

Lee Watson Reptile Swap: twice a month in streamwood, IL. They have about 2-3 frog breeders at best there. Not really worth going. great show for snakes tho. www.reptileswap.com

Ocean Design Aquarium: The owner tony is a great guy, he helped me get started in this hobby. The store is located right by 90 highway on Irving Park and Narangasan (cant spelled it), but its by the NW side of chicago. His collection is not bad. He can have anywhere from 4-6 different species for sale at a time but you have to check with him at different times. I know he has the following: giant orange, azureus, aurutus, vents, citronella, leucs and he used to have a large collection of mantella but they were not selling that well for him and he got out of that hobby. Frank on here used to buy a lot of his mantella from him. www.oceandesignaquarium.com (website hasnt been updated in over a year, just get the phone number on there and call him)

Direct-Breeder: they are at the lee watson reptile swap. Great guys to talk to at the swap but not very helpful over the phone or anything. They live very busy lives.

rainbow pet shop: located in schaumburg but they dont carry anymore pdf. You might have to special order them but when they did have some a few months ago it was like a $100 for leucs and the tincs. They are actually one of the jewels of the rainforest or whatever outlet. Those guys used to be big on selling pdf, but i guess they died out.

about a handful left but they dont know what they are doing or anything about frogs in my opinion. There is a North American Reptile Breeder Conference and Show coming up in october and the show is pretty big. Not sure how many pdf breeders will be there since i have never gone but i heard it was big. I know lllreptile are there and so are gherp.

Im sure there are private breeders by here but i do not know any. Patrick from saurian used to live 15mins from me but he moved to st.louis. Well if i left any out be sure to add to the list. If none of this makes sense, sorry i just woke up.

Yea i completely forgot about bill. Hes a great guy, not a local breeder but he comes to the show which is nice. Very easy guy to talk to, i think i forgot about him because lately ive been looking for thumbnails and he doesnt deal with those.

I got my lone Ole Marie Tinc from Bill. Good frogs, nice guy. He put up with me trying to make up my mind for about 30 minutes, as I kept coming back to his table. Then spent a good long time chatting about frogs, and Detroit vs. Chicago. (I've lived in both.)
