my AFT's dry skin

sp00nix Sep 16, 2003 01:04 AM

I purchased a AFT at a car show on Sat - he didn't look to healthy so i thought I'd give him a whirl. I've never owned a reptile, but as far as I know - his habitat is up to par.
I've got a mossy-tupperware humidity spot for him, but i never see him inside it. I'm worried because the toes on his front legs are dry, and i dont want him to eat his toes... I've just misted his usual hang out (the ultra cool castle, located in the middle of his 10 gallon tank) hoping it would help for now... any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

You can try shed ease.. just follow the directions. I put it in a large tupper ware or rubber maid container and only about 1/4 deep. let him sit in it for 20 minutes. Loosens up the skin really nice. My fatties are kept damp in their humid hides but still have problems with their toes like yours.
good luck!

Wanted to show you in this photo you can see what i mean about the feet. He had finished shedding but his 2 feet still had shed on them. take a look. Soak in shed ease got rid of it very easily.

I used to have that problem with my AFT's but them I started housing them on cyprus mulch. This, along with a humid hide, and I have no problems with shedding anymore.
