Woma not eating Help PLEASE

nouse4aname Aug 16, 2009 11:35 PM

I have an 09 male that will not eat. I have tried everything to get this guy to eat. I know these guys have a great feeding response but this one wont eat. I am not new to snakes or pythons but this is my first Woma and I waited a long time to get him. Its hard for to watch him not eat. I did get him from a real respected breeder and he said that he was eating for him. This was over 7 weeks what should I do? This is driving me crazy!
Yes all the housing is correct and so is the heat. Thanks for any help.

JONATHAN, 7 weeks is a long time for a hatchling to go without food that has already been eating. If it is getting weak or lethargic I would say its time to assist feed a pink or very small fuzz mouse. If not try scenting a fuzz mouse with a chick. Soak a chick in a small amount of warm water and pull some feathers off the chick to add to the water. Rinse of a frozen thawed fuzz mouse and place it in the warm chick water. Offer it to the woma warm and wet in a small cage or large deli cup. Good luck! Tom

I agree with Tom, but add that you might also try a section of rat tail. OR, a live small lizard or small frog. They respond to a lot of stuff visually. Once it's feeding, you can switch it to rodents. Also, has it shed?

A quick pick or description of your care and cage may uncover something if you want to go into it. Not knowing you, or saying you are wrong - but I have come across a lot of "perfect conditions" that weren't correct... just something to consider.

beyond that -
Leave it alone for 4 or 5 days - only go in that room to give it water. Then get a live pink/fuzzy - take a razor blade and cut between its ears and eyes so you have some of the "fluid" coming out - have the woma in a 6 qt tub w/ good heat - drop the mouse in there and turn out the lights - leave it alone until the next morning.

I would have to agree with the above statement.

Also, how often have you been offering food? Was it the same as it was said to be feeding on? Has it eaten for you since you've had it? Have you contacted the breeder, and what was his advice?

Good luck!
