Signs of impaction?

knish Sep 16, 2003 01:15 AM

I decided to change my substrate from sand to paper towels for the time being. My leos seem fine, but I was just wondering if there are signs to look for of impaction just to be on the safe side.

Impaction can be characterized by dark blotches in the belly (deep blue or back and somtimes red). Also if the leo isn't pooping that is also another sign that is easily reckonized. Appetite may also slow down. Hope this helped, Katie

My leos are eating (I feed crickets everyday plus mealworm dish) and pooping. But about the blotches, I'm not sure. I see dark spots through the skin, but I was always under the impression that they're just the organs of the leo. Otherwise, they seem to be doing fine.

Thanks for the help so far.

I just looked on the underside of my leos, and just to clarify, on one of them I can see a very faint dark spot near the tail end of its body. I don't know if it's just an organ or something that you can just barely see through the skin or if it's something else.
