Are there any breeders of the pygmy goanna(short tailed monitor) in the states?
I have heard their is someone in Texes that is working with these but until young ones pop up in the market who knows?
Robert
Excuse me, that is Texas!!!

There are a lot of Australian species on the market. This being the smallest species you would figure would be more widely available.
I dont understand that logic, size verses availability? Most Australian [dwarf monitor]species are rare in the USA and abroad but it would seem if more then 4-5 people are selling babies the realization of rare soon becomes lost along with interest, I have seen this with other species already. If you ask me out of all the aussie dwarfs the ackies are the only ones with strong numbers and bred by enough people to ensure a future presence in the market place.
I really hope that red ackies maintain a pure population as I have seen so many selling crosses as reds and they dont come close in the color spectrum. I guess folks like Pro Exotics will produce pure reds as long as they are around.

It is very true about red ackies, I have seen pics of red colored yellow ackies that people are selling as red ackies. If you really check them out, there are differences. Still, the safest think, if you are not sure, is to make sure that they come from a relieable breeder. Check the breeder out on the forums, etc.
I'm assuming the OP is talking about Varanus brevicauda. I've not seen them in the states. But just because there are not ads selling them here, there and everywhere does not mean they are not 'around'. It's just not everyone goes on to the internet. There are quite a few 'old-schoolers' out there doing great stuff with seemingly rare Odatria.
