A Blizzard from my triple hets......

Kerby... Aug 19, 2009 02:29 PM

I bred my 1.1 triple hets this year (albino, lavender, hypermelanistic) and produced a Blizzard from that clutch as well as a dead-in-the-egg Purple Passion

Beautiful snake Kerby.
Why is it ALWAYS the rarest snake in the clutch that dies? Regardless that is a great project. I think my PPs will go next year.

Okay not to start a debate but just wondering what the Blizzard really is. I have a snake that looks like that from my Florida king projects. Then in cornsbake genetics a blizzard has to do with anery type "B".

So can someone tell me what Blizzards really is supposed to be?

A Blizzard is a California Kingsnake displaying 2 recessive genes at the same time (albinism & hypermelanism). The hypermelanism can come from the Mendota or Davis hypermelanistic cal kings, I know the Davis and Mendota are the same recesseive gene.

Ya that is kingsnakes genetics. Ball pthons have their own. So do cornsnakes. I wish they all could be the same terms.

Don't forget about the triple homo Hondurans(pearls)too.

The snake hobby will never come to terms and use the same terminology,...everyone wants to constantly dream-up their own little "label" for stuff they produce. This is just the way things are, and will certainly never change.

No big deal though, as long as ya' know what they all consist of, it doesn't really matter a whole lot.

I agree.

However some new folks get confused. For instance. learning which way the names go on Florida kings. I try to follow consnake gentics. Well I try.

For the most part i agree with Zenny on some of the breakdowns. But it actually adds more confusion and then disinterest in the Florida kings.

But I do prefer to call a Florida iing that is hypo x Peanut butter a Hypo Peanut Butter. Also with the T negative x hypo a "true hybino".- but again that gets confusing for some because there already is a hybino (Lavender x hypo) which came along first and grabbed that name.
