im confused with leopard gecko breeding!

alexestrada Aug 19, 2009 03:17 PM

when breeding a leopard gecko...i introduce the male in in the females tub, they mate and female becomes gravid and lays eggs...after that do i have to re-introduce the male again? if i do how long should i wait? and when i want my female to stop laying eggs, how do i know when her last clutch is?

thanks,
Alex

the best thing to do is put hm with her for a week and see if she becomes gravid, then it is best to reintoduce them for a week every 4 weeks for best fertility. the females do retain sperm and should have enough for the season but i have read that it is better to reintorduce them once a month. I personally keep mine paired up together all year and let them do what comes naturally. as for knowing when they are done that varies with each female. mine lay anywhere from 10-14 clutches each year and this year i had one that is a first year breeder that has had 15 clutches already and i'm not sure if she is done yet. hope this helps. gl
