Hi Everyone, I need some advice

chloee1 Aug 21, 2009 01:02 PM

Hi everybody,
I have been very interested in snakes for a very long time and wanted to start breeding them. I currently have 2 DH ghosts (both 2 years and a few months old), a PH paradox, and a Kahl Albino het snow. I was wondering what you guys thought I shoul start to get before I begin breeding. Also, is it better to wait until the female is 4 to breed, or is 3 ok?
Thanks,
Tom

You can read numerous posts in this forum that will tell answer your questions. No matter how long the female is, she is not really physically prepared to be bred at 3. She should be at least another year old. Depending on whether she's a Cent. Am., Columbian, or BCC (not in this case)length to age varies. I wouldn't breed her unless she's at least 6 feet. She's healthier, more prepared, and you're most likely going to have larger, healthier babies.

Instead of asking wht to get to breed to what you have, think about what you want to produce. Then work out what you need to acquire to be able to produce what you want.

Thanks for responding guys. I guess what i was asking was what morphs will retain their vaule for a while, but I guess that is a hard question to ask considering how bad the market currently is.
Thanks,
Tom

None of them ,they all drop in price. Pay $18,000 for a VPI Caramel in '04 by '08 I believe they were in the $6000 - $ 8000 range.
Same goes with every Morph out there,
You have to go with what you love the most.
For me it was and is the VPI Caramel Albino Boas that

Tracy Barker and Dave started producing several years back

I also love Jungle Boas

the Best Kahl Albino & Sunglow Boas

As well as the best Sharp Albino & sunglow Boas

Aztec Boas are right now huge on my wish list

as are Marron Baos

I'm also a huge fan of the Roswell project but Het Roswell mostly

Lastly I do really love a Motley VPI Caramel,or
Sunglows either strain Kahl or Sharp
I don't recall actually seeing a Motley Sharp Glow yet

Bcc tend to maintain a somewhat level market price

So how's that answer ,LOL

breed what morph turns you on just forget what the market value is on them when you open youre animals drawer and youre jaw drops open and you hear all the oooo,s and ahhh,s from onlookers thats what its all about man not the money at least for me anyway and always has been. as far as her size goes she is no doubt too small!!! never breed a female under 15 lbs. i know folks that have had litters from female 3yrs. old and arond 12 to 13 lbs. but youre better off to wait untill everything is just right to avoid any problems and have stong healthy litters hope this helps.... regards...........
