what is the best way to heat the floor of a wooden enclosure?
We use Kane Heat Mats because they do not get too hot and are very reliable. Here a pic of our enclosures. As you can see we run 6 Kane mats on a big apple thermostat

so the kane heat mat lays inside the enclosure, not the outside like uth's?
Since I built my enclosures we made slots for the mats to go in that were under the floor of the enclosure. But since the mats do not get hot enough to burn the snakes they can go inside. The only problem here is where to run the cord out of the enclosure. Good luck
we just built a new cage for our bp and the floor is removable, so does that mean i can put the heater under the floor and it will still heat the floor yet not burn anything under?
I like just using heat lights. And you can use nocturnal lights for night if it gets to cold at night. If you "really" want something on the bottom of the cage I have used a piece of black slate rock under my heat light and it heats up nicely like a heat rock without the worry of cords or the worry if heat rocks/mats will burn the snake!

kane heat mats are EXPENSIVE. I had the same problem. I tiled the bottom of the floor. I use dimmer controlled flexwatt. There Is no chance of the wood ever burning and if the flewxxwatt ever over heated the snake could go to the other end of the cage also it doesn't have to rest on water sealant chemicals. It's easy to clean and heat. It cost about $89 to build, and its snake paradise.
IMO Kane mats are the best to use. They come with rheostats and a lifetime warranty. They are built specifically not to burn your animals. They are easy to clean if you want it inside the tank or it would work under the floor also. Since we purchased so many mats we looked for the best prices. We found new heat mats on e-bay for 45.00 after shipping for a 18'x18' heat mat. They come in larger and smaller sizes also so they will not take up the entire floor space. This is just my opinion but just giving you some more options. Good luck with your enclosure.
