Hoagie the hognose

ReflectingAbyss Aug 22, 2009 09:57 PM

I just can't help myself here are some pictures of my new male western hognose, Hoagie.

I picked up the reddest looking normal western I saw at the show, one from CF snakes. Here’s what I’ve got now with the basic starter setup in his little 10 gallon. I’ve still got to make a hidebox and get some decor or something, a second temperature gauge, but I figure this is good for right now. He’s been burrowing all over the place and very well behaved, no hissing or anything, and he’s really pretty active. I’m trying my hardest to forget he’s there and let him chill out and get used to this place.

I also got to meet the people behind Rextiles, so this is hi from Crystel! It's great to actually meet someone from these forums in person. I'll probably show up again Sunday to just look around again at everything, there was so much!

(sorry about my bad pictures- it’s a camera phone : )

That is a nice one. Your lucky you saw it before me lol. What was your impression of all of the hognose guys? Seemed like a bunch of fun loving nuts to me but I'm sure they acted a little different around a lady (I hope).

I had an absolute blast hanging out and meeting everyone. I wouldn't trade it for the world and I am gong to make sure I do what I can to attend everyone of the shows from here on out.

Heh, I certainly am lucky I went Saturday morning hoping to scope out everything quickly and have a good selection. I'm a huge fan of the yellow/red hogs so I was searching for one of those. The hognose people I spoke with seemed pretty awesome, really into the whole expo.

Did you end up picking anything up? One guy I spoke with had sold something like 22 baby hognoses to one person. Crazyness.

I picked up a few things, hopefully soon I can make some patternless albinos and a few other morphs. (all) lol.

I am going to get some size on them all and get a group photo. I am also going to the white plains show next month and I am going to pick up some more up there. I can't wait to watch them all grow and prosper.

Hi Crystel,

It was great meeting you at the show. Tonya and I were very excited for you and your new little hoggie. It's always neat to see that initial excitement of someone getting their first snake and you just looked so ecstatic, I wish I'd have taken pictures of you holding him because your smile was a mile wide.

It looks like you have a great setup for him. He will be quite content in there for a while. Some males don't even get big enough to outgrow a 10 gallon, so it's possible that that might even be his permanent home depending on how much room you feel you need/want to give him.

You definitely did not go wrong getting that beautiful red male from Chad. Hoagie is a great looking hognose and had a great personality to boot. If you have any questions/inquiries, don't hesitate to post here and you are always welcome to email me as well. And please keep us updated on his progress

Hey! The pleasure was mutual I'm glad I got to meet you guys

I've actually got a spare 30 gallon tank for when he gets bigger. It might be a little ridiculous having 1 male hognose in a 30 gallon, but I'm not sure what else to do with it, haha.

And Hoagie really is awesome. I was expecting some kind of fiestyness, at least babies I'm used to handling have it to some degree, but this guy is great! And yeah, I'm so happy about him I'm sure I'll post progress/ ask questions.
