Is Pastel Genetic?

nephrurus Aug 23, 2009 12:17 PM

Hi everybody, I picked up a nice 9ft female Ronne pastel for a steal at the OKC reptile show a couple months ago and I'm wondering if this trait is genetic or if its one of those things that just enhances the offspring. I'm not new to snakes but I'm still learning boa genetics. Let me know what you guys think or what you know is fact, thanks!

Yes, it is a polygenic trait! Best way to explain it is kids generally look like one or the other parent or possible both.. The traits of each parent were passed on...

Since it is a Pologenic trait, there's no gaurantee as to "how many" of the offspring will get this trait. It could be half the litter. It might be most of the litter. It could also be 1 or 2 in the litter will get the Pastel trait.

OK, so it is genetic but not as cut and dry as motley or hypo. Thanks for shedding some light on it, I knew $100 for the boa was good, I just didn't know how good.
